If you’re thinking about buying yourself a new chainsaw, you’re probably in the process of considering all the different features you want to prioritise.

Everyone knows that a good chainsaw should be powerful, have an ergonomic handle and overall design, and intuitive controls.
However, something that many DIYers fail to consider before purchasing a chainsaw is the countries in which different brands manufacture their products.
Where a manufacturer produces its chainsaws can tell you a lot about the quality and shipping costs you can expect, so this is definitely something important to pay attention to.
In this short guide, we’ll be listing some popular chainsaw (Also check out Best Top Handle Chainsaw) manufacturers and the countries in which they produce their chainsaws.
This way, you can have a better understanding of where your tools come from.
Stihl Chainsaws: Where Are They Made?
Stihl chainsaws are some of the most popular worldwide, and they are mainly manufactured in two very different locations: the USA and China.
The Sthil chainsaws manufactured in the US are made at the Virginia Beach facility, whereas the facility located in China is in Qingdao.
Given that Stihl chainsaws can be manufactured at one of two different facilities, many potential buyers wonder whether the testing and quality control practices differ, but Stihl has a policy where every single product undergoes the same testing regardless of location.
Where Are Poulan Chainsaws Manufactured?
Poulan is owned by Husqvarna, which is a manufacturer we will be discussing later.
While Husqvarna’s chainsaws can be pinpointed to specific facilities in certain countries, no information is publicly available regarding where Poulan chainsaws are made.
With that being said, given the relationship between Poulan and Husqvarna, it’s safe to assume that Poulan’s chainsaws are manufactured in at least some of the same countries, which are Germany, China, Sweden, Brazil, France, and the United States.
Poulan may not have all of the same production locations as Husqvarna, but you can probably make the assumption that some of them match up.
Manufacturing Location For Echo Chainsaws
When you buy a chainsaw from Echo, you can be certain that it has been built in the United States.
However, that doesn’t mean that all the components come from the USA (Also check out USA-Made Lawn Mower Brands).
In fact, there are several potential supplier countries involved in the production of Echo chainsaws (Also check out the Best Echo Hedge Trimmers).
The components used to make up each Echo chainsaw can be sourced from a variety of countries, including China, Japan, Yokosuka, Shenzhen, and Morioka.
However, some of the parts are also made in the United States – specifically, in the state of Illinois.
Where Is Parker Located?
If you want a chainsaw that has been built and made entirely from parts manufactured in the United Kingdom, Parker is a good manufacturer to look at.
All chainsaws made by Parker are built in the United Kingdom (Lincolnshire).
Parker is also a family-owned and family-run company, which is yet another reason to support this business if you are based in the UK.
Which Countries Manufacture Remington Chainsaws?

Because Rmington’s parent company is MTD Products, which has its headquarters in Ohio, many buyers assume that their Remington chainsaws have been built and assembled from parts sourced only from the United States.
However, although Remington’s headquarters are in Valley City, the company sources many of its chainsaw parts from other countries.
There are production facilities for Remington in China, Mexico, and several European countries, so it’s possible that chainsaws purchased from Remington contain components manufactured in these areas of the world.
Where Are The Jonsered Manufacturing Plants?
Like Poulan, Jonsered is owned by Husqvarna, and similarly, there’s no information available online to indicate where exactly Jonsered chainsaws are manufactured.
Again, though, since the parent company has provided information about its manufacturing practices, including the locations of its facilities, you can get a rough idea of the countries in which Jonsered chainsaws might be manufactured.
It is likely that Jonsered’s chainsaws are made in China, Germany, France, the United States, Brazil, and Sweden.
Makita Chainsaw Production Locations
Makita is a Japanese company, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all Makita chainsaws are made in Japan.
The headquarters are located in Anjō, but there are also manufacturing facilities associated with Makita in Romania, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Mexico, China, Dubai, Germany, the United States, and Rwanda.
It’s worth noting that Makita also owns Dolmar as of 1991, so there is a facility manufacturing Dolmar chainsaws in Hamburg as well.
Husqvarna Manufacturing Facilities
We’ve mentioned Husqvarna a couple of times so far during this guide because this manufacturer is the parent company of both Poula and Jonsered.
Neither Jonsered nor Poula have publicly available information regarding their manufacturing locations, but we have been basing our best guesses on the countries associated with Husqvarna manufacturing facilities.
To refresh your memory, these are: the United States, Sweden, Germany, France, Brazil, and China.
It’s difficult to know which of these countries specific parts in specific chainsaw models come from, but at least this list gives you a rough idea of where the facilities are and where components are sourced from.
Where Are McCulloch Chainsaws Produced?
McCulloch used to be a US-based company since it was originally founded in Wisconsin, but since being founded, it has changed ownership and now belongs to Husqvarna.
As a result, there is no longer any specific information about where the chainsaws made by McCullogh are manufactured, but we do know where Husqvarna’s plants are based.
You can expect chainsaws from McCulloch to have been manufactured in either Brazil, France, China, Sweden, Germany, or the United States.
In Which Country Are Tanaka Chainsaws Made?
The final chainsaw manufacturer we’re going to be discussing today is Tanaka.
Tanaka was originally a Japanese company, but it has changed ownership since it launched and is now based in China because that’s where its new parent company, Hitachi, is based.
Because of this, the vast majority of chainsaws made by Tanaka are manufactured in China.
Final Thoughts
You have a lot of manufacturers to choose from when it comes to buying a new chainsaw, and choosing the best chainsaw for your needs will involve considering multiple factors.
However, it’s important to verify where products, including chainsaws, are manufactured before you buy them so that you can make your own, informed decisions about quality control, costs, and shipping practices.
Depending on the manufacturer you choose, your chainsaw might be made from start to finish in the United Kingdom, the United States, various European countries, or major manufacturers such as China.
It can often be difficult to tell where chainsaws come from when a company has several different facilities worldwide, so bear this in mind.
